HRAGC is pleased to announce the 2026 Fall offering of the

SHRM^® CERTIFICATION STUDY PREP SEMINAR WITH A PRO

Dr. Maria Manus Painchaud, SHRM-SCP, SPHR will again facilitate the Fall 2026 HRAGC study prep seminar open to our members, SHRM^® affiliate chapter members, their friends and colleagues. HRAGC was recognized as 2025 SHRM Learning System Champion because of Dr. Painchaud’s seminars; this is the 9th consecutive year HRAGC has received this recognition. The SHRM^® Fall Testing window is December 1, 2026, through February 15, 2027.

The seminar is designed for maximum preparation. The study group will meet VIRTUALLY, via GoToMeeting. Live sessions will be held; this is NOT considered an online course. The schedule for the study prep seminar will be comprised of 10 sessions in an executive format to maximize the learning experience (schedule for Fall consists of 5 Mondays):

Dr. Maria Manus Painchaud has been a long-time member of HRAGC and has been integral in assisting many HR professionals throughout New Hampshire and Northern Massachusetts in preparing and successfully passing the SHRM certification. Over the past 25 years, Dr. Painchaud’s course participants have enjoyed a significantly higher pass rate than the national average. With the launch of new SHRM competency-based certification in January 2015, the participant pass rates from Dr. Painchaud's course far exceeded the national average. For prep courses offered through HRAGC since Spring 2017, Dr. Painchaud has facilitated an average of over 88% SHRM-CP and 90% SHRM-SCP pass rates.This is credited to the approach, additional content specifically developed in conjunction with the SHRM Learning System^® and test taking techniques Maria shared with her participants. Her commitments to advancing the HR profession and preparing HR professionals to deal with the challenges of the 21st century are well documented.

DESCRIPTION

Unquestionably, mental health has been a top workplace concern for years – and substance use is now just as pressing. Together, the two are reshaping how organizations support their people.

Mental health has emerged as one of the critical issues of our time: a 2024 SHRM survey found 44% of U.S. workers are burned out, and a 2023 U.S. Department of Health and Human Services report found 76% experienced at least one symptom of a mental health condition. Substance use compounds the challenge – roughly 49 million Americans live with a substance use disorder, according to the National Institute on Drug Abuse, and about a third of employers report alcohol is a problem in their workforce, with a quarter concerned about opioid and other substance use, per SAMHSA.

We have seen the workplace landscape change dramatically since March 2020. Employees have heightened experience with work and home stressors. The inability to shut off work at home or home at work is more prevalent. A research study conducted in March 2023 revealed many employees are experiencing low energy and exhaustion at the end of the workday, affecting their capacity to engage in activities outside of work. These pressures surface at work as burnout, disengagement, and safety and performance concerns, and they carry legal considerations for HR under laws such as the ADA, FMLA, and the Mental Health Parity and Addiction Equity Act. The panelists will discuss the signs of potential employee struggles and strategies to address them on three levels – the organization, the work group, the individual. Education, awareness, training, and compassion are critical to better understanding mental health in the workplace.

OUTCOMES

signs and indicators of mental health issues in the workplace
strategies for developing a culture of empathy, trust, and accommodation while protecting privacy
tools and resources available to support employees’ mental health and recovery
